Friends, I’ve missed you!!!
At first, some things happened that kept me from blogging…it has been so long I can’t remember them all. One big one was my computer screen cracked up and I had to purchase a new MAC and have the old one’s content moved over. That took two weeks. There were health issues in the family. Perhaps a vacation or two. Before you know it, well I think I haven’t really written a new post since our Spring Home Tour which was in April!
For a time, I enjoyed my freedom. But truly, I missed writing, sharing my life and connecting with my virtual friends. I have been attempting to get a new blog theme up for nearly a year and it is close but not ready. I may change the blog name, but have not quite decided on that part for sure.
So what’s new?
We bought a new home!
We are building a downsized home with a postage stamp lot that we won’t be caring for. It is in a Del Webb community, which is a 55+ subdivision with a 9 hole golf course, swimming pool, tennis, etc…but truth is we have a great private pool in our back yard and a subdivision pool and tennis already.
This is a transition for us.
I sold my vacation rental businesses earlier in the year and my husband just sold his dental practice though he will be working for the new owners for a few more years. Our plan is actually to move out of the area into Southwest Missouri at Table Rock Lake where we already own a home. We want to list that home and then potentially build on 5 acres we have overlooking the lake. However, the new home in Lake St. Louis was not in our original plan and will be taking quite a chunk of change out of that plan.
We have no idea the cost involved in clearing trees, digging into pure rock to build our home, so it may not even be feasible at this point. So we are exploring other options. There is no doubt in our area of interest, that if you want a home on the lake that is 5 or more bedrooms with a lake access or view and has the amenities we want that it is less expensive to purchase one already built. People never get the money they invest in these homes unless they stay there for 15 years or more.
We had the best week, July 1 -5 visiting friends in New York.
One night in the big city and then took the train out to Carmel and stayed at their home in the Sedgewood Club. A 1700s vacation retreat for New Yorkers. The history of the place is abundant. The lake serene…no motors. The home we stayed in was filled with interest and charm.
Our guests put us up in their cottage next to the main house since we were there celebrating my husband’s big birthday. But we joined everyone on the back porch for breakfast and then after a game of tennis, we spent our hours sitting on the dock, kayaking, swimming, floating and just enjoying the summer days. The guys went fishing one evening and caught more than 15 fish!
These are the things you remember in life…relaxing and spending time with friends or family. I only wish I had taken more photos, but when you are enjoying it is hard to stop and do it~
We are packing up our home. Things we don’t need for 3 years…which means we should probably get rid of them and things we will take to the new home. Yesterday, my son and husband took several car trips over to my mom’s basement to store so we can continue to get our home ready to stage. For staging tips check out this post.
Once it became real, there seems to be so much more that needs to get done. I will attempt to take you on the trip.
We are headed out camping soon. Boy has that leisure activity changed since the last time we went. Solar lights, air mattresses and so much more. We are going to camp in Southern Michigan at a State Park with a beach. Plans include to tour some beach towns, light houses and take a deep lake fishing excursion. Will we last? 7 nights are scheduled and today in Missouri we will be reaching 100 degrees! But that is why we chose Michigan and near the lake, hoping for milder weather.
It is hard to believe, but my grand baby will turn one year old in one month. So we will be hosting the party in our backyard around the pool. My daughter is in charge of it and she has a circus theme planned. I hope the weather cools down a bit before that day. I’ll give you a behind the scenes on that one too.
So there you have an update on some of the things happening and why I have been carried away with life and have left you all for about 8 weeks. Upcoming this month is a Porch, Patio and Garden Tour that I will be hosting along with about 12 other bloggers. Be sure to check it out on July 18th!
As always, I love to hear from you. Tell me what has been going on in your Summer. Would you do me a favor and LIKE my Facebook Page?
