I Need a Vacation
If you are reading this the week it was published, I am on vacation! Camping. In a tent. Do people even do that anymore? YIKES!
After this is over, I may really need a vacation.
We have no electric and of course no wifi, so there will be nothing live from me for a little more than a week. Well, I am going to bring along an iPad, so if there is a signal, I may be able to check in 2 or 3 times. But I’ll be back before you know it and I worked really hard to give you my best while I take a rest.
Let’s Do Some Smart Packing
Can’t Hate Kate
One of my most favorite designers of all time is Kate Spade. That girl designs like I feel, HAPPY! I mean how can you not be smiling caring some of this stuff?
In fact, what happens is it makes other people smile seeing you wear it. So if you want to make someone’s day, carry or wear a little Kate Spade.
I am lucky to have two incredible outlet malls near my home and we have a Kate Spade store which is where I found this adorable Tote, matching flip flops and more. But you can pick your own up through Amazon by clicking the photos. These are affiliate links.
No way! I don’t have this and it is amazing. The cutest cosmetic bag ever. If you can’t afford the Kate Spade tote but love the sentiment, this might be the perfect piece for you to carry your essential cosmetics.
I was able to buy matching flip flops, but I can’t find them any longer. So as a replacement, I think these are adorable.
When in doubt? Go Flamingo!
I am a sucker for anything beachy, coastal, etc so I also found and bought this adorable wallet.
Somehow I deleted the cutest little sea turtle coin purse, I guess it is sold out because I can’t find it now either. Bummer for you, I already own it. But in my search for it I found a few more sea turtle items by Kate!
Another leather tote! Is this not the cutest? But there are a still more sea turtles swimming around so let’s see if I can catch another one.
How could I have overlooked a passport holder? Seriously, I may get fired from this job. Baby, you will make the custom officer’s day when you pass that over to him or her. Such a high pressure and serious job that has to be boring and here you are adding a spot of sunshine.
Which is your favorite? Can you just imagine taking great photos with your phone decked out in Kate’s creations? I think I need the Sea Horse. (honey, did you read this post?)
You don’t want to miss your plane do you? How can you not have a great watch for vacation? There are itineraries to follow, they won’t wait for you and you don’t want to be late.
I have a confession to make. I may be related to Becky Bloomwood of Shopaholic distinction. There was this incredible white leather banded watch with the face of summer on it and the words, “I Need A Vacation” on it. I was trying to copy it for you here when I noticed that there was only 1 left in stock!
That was my trigger. I mean let me be serious here, folks, I only pick out what I really love and so that means deep inside I would really love to have everything I show you. So, fortunately I have a credit card with points that transfer to my Amazon account and whew! I popped it in my cart, went to check out and it was FREE!
I promise when it comes in, I will update the post with a photo of it. Sorry, it won’t let me download the photo now because THERE AREN’T ANY MORE IN STOCK!
I don’t have this beautiful necklace, but it is on my wish list.
I claimed this as my Signature Piece for Summer. I love the length, it rests in the hollow of the neck between your collar bones. It looks great with everything…dressy or casual.
I even wear it with my swimsuit and go swimming in the lake. I love this so much, I am planning to go back and pick up one or two more for Christmas gifts. You won’t be disappointed with this reasonably priced beauty.
Vera is Not Just For Seniors
Our outlet also has a Vera Bradley Store. It is not a place I have typically ever shopped before. The market seemed geared to the older woman…of which I am now a member. I am not a huge fan of the quilted look and it was so expensive for cloth which stains and wears. However, they now have lots of items that are not quilted and even have some that are a vinyl-like material though I could not tell in the luggage I purchased.
When my daughter, 27, started fawning over the very luggage I ended up getting, I knew they were going after a different demographic or at least trying to widen it. They got me, that’s for sure.
I am limited in what I can show here as patterns go, but if you click through you should be able to find lots of patterns as well as all of the options available. My pattern is Paisley Paradise. I am not sure if it is being discontinued or not ,but when I purchased I got an extra 30% off because I chose that pattern, and it was my favorite anyway!
Here are the luggage tags, available in lots of colors.
Our trip to New York was the purpose I purchased these. For the first time ever I chose not to check a bag. I have to say I surprised myself. Impressed myself. I could not stop saying “I can’t believe I have 5 days of outfits and everything I need in these two bags!”
I have never been able to go away for a weekend without bags and bags and luggage but I had two pieces and I brought about 5 or 6 pairs of shoes, makeup, about 10 outfits (probably 15), jewelry, 4 swimsuits and 3 cover ups, my laptop, supplements, a book, glasses, curling iron…well you get the idea. I had everything I needed and more for a 5 night trip and it all fit into these two great bags.
This bag is amazing. It has a lower compartment that unzips on the bottom that is perfect for shoes. The main compartment is roomy and has one zip pocket and one open. The exterior also has a zip pocket. The handle completely disappears into a fabric covered flap and it has wheels. The measurements of this full are exactly the airline requirements for your overhead bin carry on.
This backpack is my print.
Check this out. There are three zippers in the front and then the main compartment. I kept my passport in the little front one, the next pocket has a place to slide a small wallet or phone, pens and other small items. I used it for that and then slid in my Summer Vacation Read as well.
There are also two elastic pouches on the sides, I used one for glasses and the other for a bottle of water. The straps are strong and padded and often I just wore one side and let it hang as I rolled the other.
I cannot recommend these enough. The key to me being successful in my packing was the organization of the two bags. It made all of the difference in handling my load.
This is a great little pill box. Not too small but just the right size. I bought a couple of these around Mother’s Day and gave them as gifts.
Odds and Ends Soon Become Friends
I would love to have offered you the matching tote by Vera Bradley, but apparently it is already sold out completely. But of course I would not leave you high and dry! I found this swimmingly lovely beach tote keeping with that Sea Turtle theme from Amazon. For and entire selection of totes, well of course I have already got that covered. These roll up sun bonnets are all the rage. You need to protect your beautiful skin and of course you have to look stylish doing it, but how in the world do you take your favorite sun hat with you on a plane? I used to wear mine and then rest it on my lap, but no more. If you can’t fit it under the seat or in your bag, you can’t have it with you. I have another one at Retail Therapy with a pink edging.
You know you want to pack a great read too. Check out my Summer recommendations at 12 Thrilling Summer Reads.
I think that ought to have you well on your way to smart packing for your next vacation.
