He Is Risen!
“After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” Matthew 28 : 5 – 10
Timing is Everything
Friends, did you wonder yesterday where Day 40 of 40 Days of Lent was? I didn’t.
After 39 days of waking up daily with the thought that I have a devotion to write today, yesterday it never once crossed my mind. How could that be? It was the last day!
Yet, last night at the moment I put out the light the words, “Before it was light outside” came to me and I was taken to the fact that it was after midnight and it was actually Easter! I lay down and realized, I missed my very last day of devotions and I was floored by it. At the same time, I was a bit overjoyed that it had happened because who wants to miss Easter?
Who wants to write devotions and have them end on the day after the Lord is crucified and leave off the day He Rose!
Truly, I am not trying to cover up my mistake. I am suggesting that the Lord just kept it from me yesterday so when my head hit the pillow, I would hear those words and write this morning before the sun was up.
Can you imagine the gift?
Remember in Day 39 that we talked about turning our mourning into joy?
The women instantly believed what they were told by the angel. They obeyed its instructions and then Jesus met them before they every got to the Disciples to share the good news!
Yet even on this glorious, miraculous day, Satan put people to work. Not wanting people to know that Jesus had actually risen from the dead. The priests and the elders of the church gave these instructions to the guards who gave them the news.
“Say this, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole Him while we were sleeping.’ Matthew 28 : 13
The Truth Cannot Be Hidden
Despite their efforts to turn this into the first conspiracy theory, the truth got out. The truth exposed the lies being told by the leaders in the church and the government.
“For I passed on to you as most important what I also received:
that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures,
that He was buried,
that He was raised on the third day
according to the Scriptures,
and that He appeared to Cephas,
then to the Twelve.
Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time;
most of them are still alive,
but some have fallen asleep.
Then He appeared to James,
then to all the apostles.
Last of all, as to one abnormally born,
He also appeared to me.” 1 Corinthians 15 : 3 – 8
What started as just 3 witnesses turned into over 500 who saw Jesus AFTER His resurrection. For that day and age with the transportation available, that was a great number of people to have seen Jesus alive.
Your Resurrection Is Secure!
God’s Word fulfilled. Death lost its victory and its sting. Jesus overcame the grave. But the good news does not end there.
“Brothers, I tell you this: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, and corruption cannot inherit incorruption. Listen! I am telling you a mystery:
We will not all fall asleep,
but we will all be changed,
in a moment, in the blink of an eye,
at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound,
and the dead will be raised incorruptible,
and we will be changed.
For this corruptible must be clothed
and this mortal must be clothed
When this corruptible is clothed
and this mortal is clothed
then the saying that is written will take place:
Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Death, where is your victory?
Death, where is your sting?
Now the sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ!
Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15 : 50 – 58
We also will share in this victory over death and the grave. We also will rise from the dead!
Don’t Miss His Invitation
“Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.
“Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
“But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
“But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless.
“Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
“For many are invited, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22 : 1 – 14
Jesus has extended His invitation to you. Will you accept it? Will you receive it? Will you ignore it and go about your business today? Will you work to hurt those with the message?
The Banquet will come. The guests will be seated. But if you enter without receiving the invitation, you will not receive the grace, the forgiveness of sins and be clothed in white. You will not be allowed in the presence of the King.
Do Not Miss The Time Of Your Visitation
Today is a miracle. The fulfillment of years of prophecy. Jesus is Risen! He is Risen indeed. Celebrate if you are one in the fold. Spread the good news to those who are not. If you are reading this and you have no accepted the call, the invitation from Christ that you are His and He paid the price to bring you to the banquet, stop this very minute and pray.
” because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.” Luke 19 : 44b
Pray with me:
Dearest Lord Jesus, You are indeed my Savior. I am a sinner and plead for forgiveness for all of my sin. I am so sorry for everything I have ever done wrong. I need You. I need You to wash my sins away. I believe You died on the cross for me and I can now live with You forever in heaven. Lead me everyday in Your way, with Your Word. Thank You, Lord for saving a sinner like me. Amen.
The Angels In Heaven Are Celebrating!
“I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Luke 15 : 7
Yes, they are celebrating over you! They know your name and they are celebrating it! You received your invitation and you accepted it! There is a seat reserved with your name on it. Jesus is eagerly waiting and anticipating sharing the feast with you.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3 : 11

Thank You Lord Jesus~
Thank You for Your invitation to join You in heaven. Thank You for your free gift of the cross in my place. Thank You that I do not live under the burden of my sin, but in the freedom of Your presence. I celebrate You, Lord Jesus. I worship and praise You Lord Jesus. Forgive me, heal me and restore me that I may be a living sacrifice to You. In Your Holy name, Amen.
Thank you friends for the company of this journey. What a wonderful time God has spent with us. But He is not done and neither or we. Come back and visit with me through these devotions and the ones to come. Blessings,
A little gift to you from me. A few years ago a song I co-wrote was featured in a Vacation Bible School package and one of the churches had their children sing it Easter morning and sent us their youtube presentation. I hope you find the joy in this I share today!
