I am so excited to be back spending time with you all again. So much is happening, it will be thrilling to share as we make some huge changes in our lives. Missed the update? Here it is.
It has been too long since I have shared some great decorating ideas. Today I was just contemplating a sophisticated and feminine office space and here are some of the ideas that I found. Oh yes, they are pricey! But seriously, if you have ever invested in some serious pieces you will find that regret from a splurge is rare. My take is we think this is way too much and we settle for something else and over time, we repurchase a new chair or bookcase maybe two or three more times never really getting that special “fall in love” piece and before you know it, well you have spent MORE than the original inspiration.

Simply the most important functional piece if you sit in your space for long periods of time.
- The chair needs to have back support,
- be height adjustable so legs aren’t dangling
- swivel for ease of accessing items on or near your desk
- if it leans back, that is an advantage
- and of course we want it to look divine!
Simple. Elegant. Timeless.
We are going more and more paperless as well as cordless, so the days of desks with huge file drawers and computer cabinets are waining. A clutter free environment gives us that feeling of freedom and a fresh start each day, so select a desk that makes it easy to keep free of too many piles and still makes you feel like it is a place you want to sit at and get productive.
Function is paramount in shelving, that is understood. However, taking up massive real estate in your space you really need to give them a fresh look. Make an impact in your style and feeling by the type of shelving chosen. Rather than your typical wooden enclosed backs, these solid brass etegeres with wooden shelves make the perfect statement in the sophisticated and feminine direction of the space I am designing.
A rug warms and quiets the room. It can stand out or just add the texture and style that completes the look of the space. In this case, we are going with the latter. Though there is an animal print in this rug, it is so subtle that even the most refined taste palette would find it hard to object to. Delicate in color, it brings a hush of mischief to a very sophisticated room.
Window treatments can be so many things and can just be functional or add to your decor or both.
I am in love with Roman Shades in all of their variations. This one is a Tulip Roman Shade. The way it rises creates a balloon style and will look great pulled completely up, midway or fully down.
Any color or pattern will work and here I have chosen a soft pattern that corresponds to the blues and off-white palette that has emerged as I brought this space together.
Reflection is a key element in decorating any room and mirrors can be just plain boring if we continually select rectangles that are suitable for hanging over your bathroom sink. Explore a little and enjoy mirrors with pizazz! The ones I found for this office space are floor mirrors, though I would anchor them to the wall. A set of three for impact and they have been distressed with a tarnished pattern in their surface. They will do their job of reflecting light into the room but they will also act almost as a sculpture or piece of artwork because of their size, duplication and treatment.
While it may be considered wall decor, art is certainly in a league of its own. Finding one significant piece that brings a smile to your face that sets the tone for your space is really the challenge. You don’t want to ever get bored of it, you want to be inspired by it. But it is such a personal meaningful trigger that only you should select it. For me, this beautiful scene said much to me. I love color, I love the texture that jumps out and the way it is not literal so that makes me happy. I love the coast and this looks like a beach. Everything about this piece makes me want to sit in its presence and work!
I know, you really don’t need a land line these days or do you? I recently let mine go and there are frustrating times when other people cannot hear me. So having a land line may not be such a bad idea after all. I love these phones. I have them in both finishes and find them a refreshing way to carry on a conversation. You can’t just walk around, you have to sit and talk which can keep your conversations under control!
I have to admit that I miss hearing the click, click, click as we used to spin the number dials. Can’t use those any longer I guess.
We all need a card holder, so ordinary, right? Why?!
Make the little things extraordinary. This is a gorgeous card holder suitable for your fantastic name and position. I think this is the best NEW JOB gift you could give a girl. (honey, if you’re reading this….hint, hint…our anniversary is coming!)
Another mundane utility piece for your desk. Do you even use one? If I had this letter opener you could be certain of it~ uniquer than any I can imagine, this ties in my love for the beach, a sophisticated look and my creative personality. You can find one that suits you perfectly as well, with a little searching.
Files can clutter! So, let’s keep it clean and sleek with this metal art sculpture file folder holder. Again, there are so many unique file holders available today. This one suits my look to a T~
Organizing stuff gets so boring! Pens, Pencils, Paperclips and more, so to keep it not so boring I love to go to Kate Spade for style. Simplistic and lovely there are more coordinating items that match this tidy little cup.
YUCK! Trash. We all have it, we don’t want to look at it and we wish it just disappeared.
Well, at least you can make the temporary holding space not so ugly. This is a lacquered finished can that keeps it light and airy. More matching items available for this cabana styled can as well.
I have two selections of frames that I loved for this office space. The first reflects the lines of the file folder holder with the metal architecture letting the photo float.
I gave a few of these in Copper to my Son at Christmas because they compliment the Steam Punk style he is loving at this time. They come in multiple sizes as well.
These I selected because of the delicate and interesting metal frames. Not overpowering, you could use several of this style in the same setting.
Now to set the background of the room, let’s add a little Crushed Ice by Sherwin Williams. A soft neutral gray color that will keep the room bright but not glaring.
Used here in a kitchen.
Lighting is THE MOST important aspect of your office space. If you do not have adequate lighting, you just simply can’t get great work done. I know because when we built our home they didn’t do can lights in the ceilings and didn’t even offer a central room light in our bedrooms except the master. Consequently, my current office space with just one window has to be lit from lamps and it is a daunting task to create the light I desire.
So here, thinking ahead, I would totally do a central piece for style and overhead light. This one reflects the etagere and some of the other metal pieces and yet seems feminine to me. I absolutely adore it!
